I feel the need to express myself!

February 5, 2000 - The Rainy Day
Dear Journal, this is the first chance I have had to write to you in a while. You see, I have been very busy. The snow has finally started falling here in Michigan (you know, the state that is shaped like a paw) and I love playing in the snow! Catching snowballs is a blast!

Still, it was a warm winter compared to what I remembered last year. We got quite a bit of rain, it turned cold, then it turned warm, then it rained again... Well, you get the idea. This created some swell muddy spots in my backyard. I told Yoshi my plans to go out and play in that mud the next chance I got. "I don't know," Yoshi said, "sounds like trouble to me!"

One afternoon I just had to go outside! I pounced on mom and dad and they let me out. I ran laps around the yard and they went back into the house to let me play. Seeing how clean and white I was when I started out, they had no reason to suspect what was about to happen.

I won't get in trouble!
What is the problem? Let me in! I quickly found the muddiest spot in the yard and began to do one of my favorite things: DIG!!! I dug and dug until I thought I would end up in some land far away, like maybe Lapeer or Detroit! I kept digging until I found that the hole was starting to fill up with water... very, very cold water! Needless to say I had had enough of this and wanted to go back inside to warm my paws. I walked up onto the porch and barked which is my usual signal.

Dad came to the door. "Hurry up!" I barked. He started to open the door but looking at me, he put his hand over his mouth and said "Oh, Spunky!" He pulled his head back inside the house and closed the door. "What's the deal?" I barked urgently. I didn't see the problem. A caring owner would let his pup in when she is cold. Confused, I stared into the house through the sliding door waiting for him to come to his senses and let me in.

Finally, he comes out again but instead of letting me in, he picks me up! I hadn't been picked up since I was a small puppy! What is worse, he put me in the tub and turned the water on. I was getting... a BATH! What a horrible experience. In a few minutes, the water was the same color as the mud hole only this time I definitely was not having any fun! Oh, the humiliation.

2 Clean pups. Finally it was over and I was clean again. All Yoshi would say is "Told you so, Spunky!" Oh well, it's a dog's life.
