August 26, 2000 - My Vacation, by Yoshi!
Wow! I just got back from my first ever vacation! It was great! We got in the car, dropped Spunky off at a "doggie hotel" as mom and dad called it and were on our way. I rode in the front seat on dad's lap all the way. I took in the scenery, got to get out and explore wonderful places called "rest areas" and ate like a king.

 

About half-way through our trip, through, I got a little sad. Poor Spunky, I thought She's missing out on this. I wish she were here. I began to pout. But after realizing that I was going to have a weekend away from Spunky constantly rasslin' with me and drooling on me and taking my bones, I got over it. In fact, I was all the more determined to have a great vacation!

It wasn't long before we reached our vacation spot. It was really nice! Had sunny spots, shady spots, a creek and best of all, this little house on wheels where we stayed. Here I am standing guard while mom and dad unload their stuff. Hopefully, they remembered my treats in all those bags!

Hmmm... Which part of the vacation was the most fun? I would say that one of my favorite things was exploring around the creek and thinking about what it would be like to be a Labrador Retreiver, jumping in there and splashing around. Brrrr!! Makes me glad I am a Shih-Tzu! That water is freezing!

Another favorite was spending quality time with my people, especially little Travis. Here I am keeping him warm one morning when he didn't feel like sleeping anymore. Don't worry, dad wasn't far away. Soon after this, Grandma and Grandpa who were staying next door had breakfast with mom and dad. I got to have some eggs and bacon. Wow! Now that's what I call vacation food!

I got to spend a lot more time outside than I ever do at home. I got to see all kinds of wild creatures. There were butterflies, dragonflies and even a couple of hummingbirds. I also got to see lots of songbirds like sparrows and chickadees. There were robins pulling worms out of the ground and at night I even heard some howling. I was going to join in, but didn't want to wake the baby.

Oh well, all good things, even vacations must come to an end. After one last romp by the creek, mom and dad told me it was time to go. They loaded up the car and off we went. I have lots of great memories and will never forget my summer vacation. Guess I have to give Spunky her journal back now.
